Ones to watch

So what are we going to find on our telebox this year to tease, tantalise and delight the daylights out of us? Here are six very different programmes that we’re looking forward to.

The Hollow Crown: War of the Roses

Fans of Benedict Cumberbatch will be pleased to see him back on TV – this time taking on the role of Henry III in this latest Shakespeare adaptation from the BBC. Joined by Judi Dench, Michael Gambon and Hugh Bonneville, this all-star cast work their way through the second half of Shakespeare’s history cycle, as we mark the 400th anniversary of the Bard’s death.

The X Files

Mulder and Scully are back!  In the nineties, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson ruled the airwaves as FBI special agents investigating unsolved cases involving paranormal activity. Now they’re going to be reunited for a new series on Channel 5 and early reviews suggest it’s not going to disappoint.

Whether you’re premiering Walking Dead on Sunday 14th February, or watching the entirety of The Crown in one go, here are a few tips to make sure you’re properly prepared:

Cushion the blow

All screen fans need cushions to hide behind when the action turns scary or gory.  Pile up your sofa with loads of lovely, soft cushions and you’ll be able to dive behind them when it all gets too much.  If you’re a diehard fan of GOT, these cushions are perfect for making any iron throne a little bit comfier. We’re also fond of our tartan and stag pillows that come with our Galloway sofa.

Go for the cinema experience

Treat yourself to a big bowl of popcorn and create the whole cinema experience from the comfort of your sofa. Getting a group together? Stock up on these old school popcorn boxes from Party Delights and fill with home-made popcorn from this fool-proof BBC recipe. Drizzle your popcorn with honey and Benedict Cumberbatch might not be the only tasty thing you see that evening!

Get Creative

Theme your weekend baking to your evening TV. These creepy brain cakes are perfect for The Walking Dead (if you’re brave enough!), or grab yourself some royal cookie cutters and whip up your favourite biscuits for watching The Crown. So good they’re fit for a queen.

Cosy up

Staying in is the new going out. With so many great new things on TV to keep you occupied, the best thing to do this winter is to stay in and get cosy on your sofa with the help of a few gorgeous blankets or throws. The only difficult thing will be tearing yourself away when it’s bedtime. We particularly love these oversized chunky knits for the ultimate in sofa chic.
